What we collect, and what we don't

Short version: we collect the email you give us and the answers you type into our forms. We don't sell it, we don't run ad trackers, and you can have it deleted by asking.

What we collect, and only when you hand it over

We don't require an account to browse the map. Everything below is something you typed into a form on purpose.

• Your email address — when you join the list, apply to be a Scout, contact us, or buy something.
• Scout application answers — the county and state you're looking at, where you are in your journey, what you're trying to figure out, and what you'd be willing to pay. We ask about price because it's the only honest way to work out what this should cost.
• Ground reports, corrections, feedback and product requests — whatever you write in those forms.
• Your permission choices — whether you've said we may quote you publicly, and whether you're open to giving a ground report.

Payments — we never see your card

Checkout runs through Stripe, which acts as merchant of record. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us. We see that a purchase happened, the amount, and the email attached to it.

What we do with it

We use it to run the thing: send you what you asked for, give you access to what you bought, answer you, decide which counties to research next, and figure out fair pricing. That's the whole list.

We don't sell your address or your data, and we don't share it with advertisers. There is no advertising on this site and we're not planning any.

Who else touches it

Only the services that make the site work: Netlify (hosting and form submissions), Stripe (payments), and Kit (email). Each holds it to do a job for us, not for their own purposes. Our map also loads two open-source mapping libraries from a public CDN (unpkg), which — like any web request — sees your IP address.

What we don't do

No Google Analytics. No advertising pixels. No session recording. No cross-site tracking cookies. If that ever changes, this page changes first, and we'll say so plainly.

How long we keep it

Emails stay on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete you. Purchase records we keep as long as we have to for tax and accounting. Research contributions — the county facts themselves — stay part of the research, because a fact about a county isn't personal data. Anything identifying you comes out when you ask.

Your say over it

Email thelastfreeacre@gmail.com and we'll:

• tell you what we hold about you,
• correct it,
• delete it,
• or withdraw a permission you gave us — including permission to quote you.

If you're in California or the EU you have specific rights under the CCPA and GDPR. We'd rather just honour those requests for everybody than make you prove where you live.

Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and it works.

Children

This site is for adults buying land. It isn't aimed at children and we don't knowingly collect anything from anyone under 16.

Changes

We'll update the date at the top. If a change actually affects you, we'll email rather than assume you re-read this page.
